Spring plowing is in full swing, and thousands of acres of farmland in Xiushan Ocean Township have been replaced with “green clothes”. In the corn planting base completed at the end of March, a new model of green agriculture is emerging. The township’s closed-loop system of “planting-raising-plus” through corn planting has injected green kinetic energy into rural revitalization.

In the “corn +” compound planting model vigorously promoted by Ocean Township, the family farm of Wu Yonglong, a large-scale grower, planted 800 mu of characteristic corn through the form of order agriculture.
“We prefer corn varieties, with a total planting volume of about 1 million plants. It is expected to be launched in June. At present, pumpkin interplanting is being carried out simultaneously.” Wu Yonglong, who is guiding interplanting technology in the field, said that relying on the “family farm + farmer” cooperation model, more than 30 farmers in the surrounding area have been driven to participate in planting to ensure their stable income.
Three-dimensional agriculture activates land
Walking into the sweet corn planting base in Haiyang Township, a fiery and busy labor scene came into view. On the neat fields, farmers carried hoes and pumpkin seeds interplanted in the corn field, shuttling through the fields, nesting, planting seeds, and covering soil… One process at a time. The root systems of corn and pumpkin are complementary and the growth cycle is dislocated, and three-dimensional cultivation is innovatively realized.
“The’corn on top, pumpkin on the bottom ‘model can increase the land utilization rate by 35%, maximize the use of land resources, and achieve more production and more harvest in one field,” Chen Chunhong, an industrial development service center in Haiyang Township, said.
Closed-loop industrial chain points green into gold
Every summer and autumn, the harvested corn plants are processed by the silage processing plant in Haiyang Township and turned into “rations” for livestock such as cattle and sheep.
“The’corn + ‘compound planting in Ocean Township can produce 5,000 tons of silage and yellow storage feed annually, meeting the annual feeding needs of 14 local farmers and herdsmen.” Pu Shifeng, a staff member in Ocean Township, calculated the ecological account: more than 3,000 mu of corn are planted in the township, more than 1,000 mu of “corn +” compound planting, and 500 mu of pasture. All of them can be converted into feed, which can reduce burning pollution and support the breeding of 4,000 ecological cattle and sheep in the township. After the manure generated by the breeding is composted, it can be turned into high-efficiency organic fertilizer for more than 3,800 mu of fruit gardens.

According to the statistics of the Party Committee and Government of Ocean Township, since the operation of the circular system, the comprehensive utilization rate of agricultural waste has increased by 50%, the cost of breeding has decreased by 18%, the use of chemical fertilizers has been reduced by 32%, and the agricultural output value of the township will be 50 million yuan in 2024. By opening up the ecological link between planting and aquaculture, it has promoted a virtuous circle of agriculture and injected strong impetus into the local economic development.
